The Secret of My Seventeenth Birthday

             Being Seventeen for people is a stage to remind them that they will leave their teen age into an adult age soon. Then the celebration for their seventeenth birthday party must be very important for them to celebrate. Some people might hold a big party to make their seventeenth birthday party to be unforgettable.

            My seventeenth birthday was just the ordinary event to remember me that I had ever born on that day and gratefully that now I was being seventeen years old. Not more and not less, that was about my seventeenth birthday. My ordinary birthday party even though it was very simple but there was something special about it.

            Same like other people who admired having a good memorable seventeenth birthday party, and so did I. I wanted to make a very special birthday party that will never be forgotten. I decided to take a lot of pictures on my birthday so that I could always remember it. I planned this because my sister and my brother were so lucky to have a lot of birthday photos but I did not have any. When I asked my mother about me never having a birthday party, she said that she ever celebrated but there was not any camera at that time. So in my seventeenth birthday party, I wanted my mom to borrow a camera and captured a lot of pictures during the celebration.

            8^th October 2007, five years ago I still clearly remember about my seventeenth birthday. The day before it, I asked my mom to hold just a simple birthday party for me; invited some of my friends, buy a simple cake, and lend a camera to capture a lot of best moments. That were the things I really wanted on my birthday, but my mom did not grant all my wishes. I still can tolerate my mom for only having a camera and a very simple cake but she still disagree with it. She said that it was very hard to get a camera. I felt very sad and disappointed about it.

            The next day, on my birthday, my mom still did not grant my wishes even though I mad at her. Then she came into my room and gave me Rp. 200,000,-  to buy things that I wanted. After that she said happy birthday and kissed my check. Although I felt disappointed but finally I bought some clothes to make me feel in relieved.

            The other day my mom said sorry to me for not grant all my wishes. She explained why she gave me some money because she wanted me to buy some things that will make me always remember about my seventeenth birthday. She could not lend or buy a camera because it was very hard to get quickly before my birthday, beside that my mother did not have so much money to hold a big party or even simple party for me. After my mom explained everything, suddenly I could feel my ego was melted by her words. I felt deeply sorry for not understand her. Then I thank for everything to my lovely mom.

            Seventeenth birthday party was just a date to remember when I was born to this world but actually it was not so simple like that, the secret behind its celebration was to said gratefully to God for everything that I have gotten until I was being seventeen. I did not need any celebration or any gifts. I just need to be grateful that I have the best mom who always stands beside me and makes every moment in my life captures so perfectly.
