The
location of my grandma’s house is in a remote area. It is very far and very
difficult to be found. My grandma’s house is located in Solo, precisely in
Klabang village, Boyolali. My grandma’s house is not in a center of Solo city,
it is in a suburban area, in a village. When you arrive in Boyolali, just go
straight ahead until the post office’s Banyudono, turn right and you will enter
the village houses with beautiful views along the streets. You will see a lot
of plants such as vegetables, fruits, and also rice fields everywhere. My grandma’s
house is near a rice field. It is quite hard to describe, but
actually if you can find Klabang village, it will be easy to get this
direction.
The
environment surroundings my grandma’s house is very good and clean. The view is
very beautiful. You can see a big yard of rice field behind the backyard of my
grandma’s house. It looks very neat with its green paddies in a proper row. The
green paddies are still growing for about 50 cm height. I liked to visit this
rice field by sitting in a small gazebo in the middle of rice field. Then I
would enjoy the view and the blast of wind. On the right side of the rice field,
there is a small river with a small waterfall. The water is very clear and
clean. When I was still a kid, I liked to play water on it. The fresh water could relieve your tiredness and fatigue. There
are also small fish. You can see it clearly because the water is very
clear.
On the left side of my grandma’s house, there is a garden with some plants such as eggplants, cabbages, carrots, and tomatoes. Not only the environment which is good, but also the neighborhood or the societies are also kind. The society is very harmonious. They will help each other, work together, and build village together. I really salute for this togetherness that is very rarely found in this modern era. I always love to visit my grandma’s house because it is like healing. The situation is very quiet, calm and refreshing. It is very different with situation in the city which is polluted and noisy.

Grandma’s house is a
traditional house with simple construction. The house consists of three parts
only. The first place in the very left side of the house consists of kitchen
and toilet. A small toilet is on the left side and a big kitchen is on the
right side. There is also a well inside of it. The kitchen only consists of traditional equipments. The
traditional equipment that I clearly remembered was only an old stove from
clay.
The next place is the second
part of the house, in the middle of the first and third part. The middle part
is divided into living room and small bedrooms. The living room is behind the
front door and there are two small bedrooms behind it. The first bedroom is my
uncle’s bedroom and the second bedroom is for guest. Inside of each bedroom
only consists of one small kapok bed and one old cupboard. Outside the bedrooms
is for living room with old chairs and table. There is a small old television
and a small aquarium beside it. Everything in this house looks very classics with its old Javanese
woodcarving on each interior of walls. The floors all over places are still use
soft cement without ceramic.
The last part of the house, the
third part is on the right side of the house. It is the bedroom for my grandmother.
Unlike other bedrooms, in this bedroom there is a kapok bed, a cupboard, and a
table because it is quite bigger. Well, actually the house is very simple with
only a few furniture. Every time I visited her, she always gave a warm
heart to invite me to come and visit her.
Grandma’s
house is the most memorable place that I will never forget. I always miss my
old sweet experiences with grandma on that place. When I first came, I would
run to her, called her grandma, and hugged her deeply. Then she would reply me
with her warm smile. She used to spend her spare time by cleaning the backyard
of her house, so when I came, I would like to help her. After that we would
drink tea together while sharing a story with my family too. I would meet my
whole big family during celebration of “Idul Fitri” in my grandma’s house. It
was the perfect moment to capture in my mind. When my grandma was getting
older, she used to spend her time by “dzikir” (praying continuously) in the
veranda of the house. She would sit in the long chair and murmur God’s name in
Arabic words. Then I sat next to her while holding her hand, look into her
droopy eyes, wrinkle face and white hair. She still looked healthy and
beautiful although her age was 120 years old. Now my grandma is in God’s place.
She is happy there. The remaining thing about her is only her house. When I
visited this house, I completely remembered about what she was doing at that
time in this corner of this place.
This
place is very important for me, my family and especially my mom who used to
spend her childhood memory in this place. It is the memorable place to remind me about grandma. This
kind of memorable place is the only left thing
from my grandma but its memories will be remain in my heart.
